Opinion: Misconduct allegations don’t mean we’re not taking action

Much of the public discussion about misconduct or abuse assumes that if incidents occur it must mean action is not being taken. Yet, the opposite is true. I wrote this article for The New Humanitarian explaining why, for international NGOs like Oxfam that operate in some of the most challenging environments on Earth, further safeguarding incidents are, sadly, likely to arise. It is what happens before and after that organisations like ours should be judged on, and we are working tirelessly to ensure that our culture and processes make incidents much less likely to occur, and take appropriate action if they do.
