Interview: CNN – why we need a people’s vaccine

I spoke to CNN’S Zain Asher about the impact of the new Covid variant on developing economies and the deeply unfair ‘vaccine apartheid’ we are seeing, where rich countries have secured around three times their population’s worth of vaccines, while in poorer countries only 1 in 10 people may be vaccinated by the end of the year. Short-term shareholder interest is holding long-term public good to ransom. If we’re going to crack this pandemic as a world population then we need governments and pharmaceutical companies to remove artificial barriers that are holding back mass roll-out, including by suspending intellectual property rules, sharing technology through the World Health Organization and ending monopoly control, so that everyone, everywhere has access to the vaccine as quickly as possible. #PeoplesVaccine
